Workflow Builder

This page helps users understand Workflow Builder, the canvas for creating typed business workflows from trusted Parsepoint data. The current utility slice creates extraction rules from source bills so future matching bills need fewer repeated corrections.

Before you start

• You need at least one enabled related module to see Workflow Builder.
• Utility extraction rule creation requires Utility Manager write access.
• A parsed or reviewable utility bill is required before saveable extraction rules can be configured.

Use the canvas

The left drawer contains Triggers, Extraction rules, Source bill, Selected block, Actions, and Active rules. The center canvas starts empty until you add a trigger or rule. The right drawer shows assistant-style context but does not create rules for you.

Supported extraction rules

• Use one field to fill another: copy Invoice Date into Usage Start Date when the start date is missing.
• Keep or ignore matching bill components: keep or drop recurring component names.
• Rewrite component fields: change safe component metadata such as component name, activity type, or native UOM.

What happens next

After a successful preview and save, the rule becomes active. The confirmation page offers Back to Workflow Builder, Open source bill table, and Create another extraction rule from this bill.

If you do not see this option

The sidebar item may be hidden by organization settings, module access, or feature availability. Saveable controls stay locked without Utility Manager write access.

Troubleshooting

If the toolbar says Add a trigger to start, add Utility bill parsed or Manual run. If it says Preview before saving, run the preview again after changes. If a duplicate rule exists, disable the existing rule or change the scope.
